The S&S Trophy for the Fastnet Race

The Sparkman & Stephens Trophy, pictured on page 1, will be presented to the Royal Ocean Racing Club and awarded for the best overall position achieved by an S&S-designed yacht in the Fastnet Race. The 605-mile classic, which Dorade first won in 1931, starts at Cowes on 12 August. Our trophy will be presented during the post-race prize-giving in Plymouth Guildhall, probably on Friday, 17 August. The contributors to the trophy fund are: Sparkman & Stephens Inc.; Association members Warren Brown (War Baby), Sir Edward Heath (Honorary Life Member), Paul March and Kate Bottomore (Clarilonet), Patrick Matthiesen (Inverness), Neil Millward (Clairella), Sir Geoffrey Mulcahy (Noonmark V), Bill Parry (Matra), Terry Sprake (Mornings End); and three members of the RORC who race or raced  S&S yachts in the Fastnet - Peter and Sue Davison (Sliebone), Stephen Matthews (Yellowdrama) and O J Van der Vorm (Zwerver).No-one should hesitate to compete for the trophy on the grounds that their partner hates polishing the silver - the trophy is made of a new Sterling Silver (92.5%) alloy that contains germanium and greatly reduces tarnishing.
