I have owned Chyandra for about eight years and she does have a story to tell. I bought a ‘write off’ and now have a superb boat.
Here are just four photos showing what we bought and the ‘now’. I willget to writing a page or so as I do have some ‘how to’ points to offer.
Chianti is an S&S 34 Hull Number 29 built in about 1971. We bought her in 2002. Her previous owners lived aboard in the Caribbean and Alison and I have gradually updated her so she is now a very comfortable boat. Major work includes replacing the windows, cabin flooring, soft furnishings, distribution panel and shore power. We spend most weekends in the summer aboard at Sparkes Marina, Hayling Island. We even take her sailing occasionally! Our favourite places are in the Solent but we did get to the Falmouth AGM and took part in the racing from which the photo below was taken. I am at the helm, Alison is in the cabin, crew are Ron Melton and Chris Beech.

Clairella is one of seventeen Delta 94s built in Britain in the late 1970s and early 1980s to the She 31 B hull design with an improved deck moulding. Her original owner raced her two-handed in the Azores and Back Race of 1979 and in the Three Peaks Race the following season. She has since provided enjoyment in both racing and cruising modes. Cruises have included the 900 mile round trip to Bristol for the first International Festival of the Sea, North and South Brittany, and the Ijsselmeer. Racing results have included overall winner in the Classics Race at the Portsmouth International Festival of the Sea and Class 2 winner in the Royal Southampton Yacht Club’s Two-Handed Cowes-Cherbourg Race in 2000.
